These Formula One cars mark some of the most pivotal moments in the sport for Shell and Ferrari.

Ferrari 125 F1
This was Ferrari’s first Formula One car, developed by Enzo Ferrari with the support of Shell and designed by Gioachino Colombo. Its 1.5 litre, V12 engine powered to 2 victories between 1948 and 1951 – including Ferrari’s first ever Grand Prix win. Successful drivers such as Alberto Ascari and Peter Whitehead felt the force of this classic.

The iconic design of this car made it an instant hit with fans. It was affectionately dubbed ‘sharknose’ because of its air-intake ‘nostrils’ and stormed to victory in both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship. Of course, Phil Hill’s immaculate driving also played a massive part.

This is where Shell’s technical partnership with Ferrari entered a new era as technology like aerodynamics and fuel became more important. The power of the partnership was proven though as Ferrari got the second place on the Constructors’ Championship: it still represents the team’s transition to the modern incarnation of Formula One.
