Mr. Wong: My name is Wong Wan Hing, people call me Uncle Hing. I have been in the fishing business for over 60 years.

Mr. Wong: It is very challenging to run a fishing business, we can never predict the fish catch. We are facing recurrent expenditures like labour costs, tools and boat maintenance as well as unpredictable fish catch.
The biggest challenge to the fishing business in recent years is the rising fuel expense, which can be as much as 60 percent of the total operating cost. With the reduced amount of fish catch, all this puts a lot of burden on the business.

Mr. Lo: I am Tack, the owner of Yee Lee Limited Company. It was difficult to run the fishing business in recent years. Fuel expense makes up a large portion of the total cost of running a fishing boat. The boats all want to lower the cost on fuel.
A while ago I attended a Shell Conference on diesel and learned that they are now offering their latest Shell FuelSave Diesel for vehicles. I was interested in this topic and therefore discussed with Shell whether it can be applied to fishing boats as well. If it proves to be effective, we can help fishermen to reduce the fishing boat expenses.

Paul: My name is Paul, I started working in Yee Lee for boat engineering and maintenance when I was in my 20s.

Paul: To me, this fuel trial is an innovative idea. The purpose of the trial was to compare the performance of Shell FuelSave Diesel and Shell Rimula R6 LM engine oil with regular diesel and regular lubricant used on fishing boats.
The most important aspect of this trial was to design a fair and objective comparison, as fuel consumption of fishing boats will be affected by uncertainties such as boat speed, amount of fish catches and wind direction. In this trial, Cheung Hing No. 3 was operated by two engines at the same time, so we basically tested one with Shell FuelSave Diesel and Rimula R6 LM, and the other one with regular diesel and regular lubricant. Each engine was connected to an electronic flowmeter to measure the fuel consumption.

Mr. Wong: It significantly cleaned up the injectors from carbon deposits, there was less black smoke emissions, the boat ran more smoothly than before. This new fuel can help reduce maintenance frequency and cost for the boat. Since my boat is already 19 years old, I expected to see slight improvement only but was surprised with such a huge benefit.
