October 30, 2016, Hong Kong – The award ceremony of the 35th Shell/Island JC Scholarship for the Disabled Students, jointly sponsored by Shell Hong Kong Limited, Island Junior Chamber, the Education and Manpower Bureau, Hong Kong Special Schools Council and the Social Welfare Department, was successfully held today at Telford Plaza in Kowloon Bay. The award ceremony is designed to recognise students with special educational needs (SEN) who have overcome difficulties induced by their disabilities, encourage them to understand the importance of education and further unlock their potential to serve society. It also serves to extend thanks to their teachers, and improve the public’s understanding and concern for those SEN students.
Since its inception in 1981, the scholarship programme has been highly popular with schools, students and parents from all walks of life. To date, the scholarship winners have numbered 750. At the same time, the scholarship programme aims to arouse social attention for SEN students and allow the public to understand that the SEN students can be full and valuable contributors to society.
