Shell “Bring Your Own Foldable Gear” - a convenient way to reduce waste

Shell does more than fueling journeys on-the-road, we also strive to contribute to the Hong Kong community. According to the report “Monitoring of Solid Waste in Hong Kong - Waste Statistics for 2015” published by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD), the total quantity of solid waste disposal was more than 3.7 million tonnes, which marks the fourth consecutive year of growth. At the same time, the waste recovery rate has been on a declining trend in recent years and dropped to its lowest level.

As the saying goes, the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, and so Shell is now joining hands with people in Hong Kong to fight the waste problem by making small differences in our everyday habits, by reducing consumption of single-use disposable products.

“Bring Your Own Foldable Gear” – to fight waste at the source

To encourage reducing waste at the source, Shell co-operates with social startup BottLess to provide the community with more convenient solutions on waste reduction. Starting from 15 September 2017, the “Bring Your Own Foldable Gear” promotion offers a range of reusable and foldable gears including a Foldable Water Bottle, Foldable Coffee Cup, Foldable Food Box and Bamboo Cutlery Set. Customers can redeem a set for spending HK$400 or above on fuels or lubricant products at any Shell station.

Foldable Food Box

From15 September 2017 onwards, customer can redeem a Foldable Food Box (blue/orange) at half price (HK$60) with spending of HK$400 or above on fuels or lubricant products.

The Foldable Food Box is made of silicone, light, compact and microwave safe.

Bamboo Cutlery Set 

From 6 October 2017 onwards, customer can redeem a Bamboo Cutlery Set (blue/orange) at 40% off (HK$50) with spending of HK$400 or above on fuels or lubricant products.

The Bamboo Cutlery Set is made of bamboo, and the holder is made of recycled PET –upcycling used plastic into useful materials again.

Foldable Coffee Cup

From 27 October 2017 onwards, customer can redeem a Foldable Coffee Cup (blue/green) at half price (HK$70) with spending of HK$400* or above on fuels or lubricant products.

The Foldable Coffee Cup has a capacity of 355 ml, highly heat-resistant, and can be folded into palm size.

Foldable Water Bottle

From 17 November 2017 onwards, customer can redeem a Foldable Water Bottle (blue/green) at half price (HK$80) with spending of HK$400* or above on fuels or lubricant product.

The Foldable Water Bottle has a capacity of 750ml, can be easily twisted to collapsed down to palm size when empty, which is very light and compact to carry around.

Shell introduced Recycling Machines at its station

Reducing waste at its source is crucial to environmental protection, but recycling is also an important way to make our city greener. To promote recycling in the community, Shell has started piloting plastic bottle Recycling Machine at its station, and will expand the Machines across the network gradually. Participating recycling companies are certified by the government to ensure disposed plastic bottles are truly recycled into useful material and not ending up in the landfills.
