Shell Expands The Plastic Bottles Collection Service Through Its Citywide Station Network To Promote Recycling
Aug 27, 2020
Shell made the best of its Retail station network to set up plastic bottle collection points, providing convenience to the public to give recyclable materials a new purpose.
To role model and further promote corporate environmental responsibility, Shell Hong Kong Limited (“Shell”) has recently participated in Baguio Green Group Companies’s (“Baguio”) “iRecycle” programme and made the best of its Retail stations covering the whole territory of Hong Kong to set up plastic bottle collection points, providing convenience to the public to give recyclable materials a new purpose.
Since Shell joined the “iRecycle” programme in April this year, in-station plastic bottle collection locations vastly expanded from 5 to 38. Through its extensive station network covering Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and New Territories, Shell has made a remarkable contribution for successfully collecting more than 50,000 plastic bottles, which exceeds 90% of the total collection from the programme. Shell has also taken this opportunity to launch a reward offer, citizens can earn points with “iRecycle” mobile application for recycling plastic bottles (Type 1 and Type 2) at Shell stations1. Points earned can be used to redeem Shell Select promotional vouchers or tote bags at special price and more.
Anne Yu, General Manager – Retail of Shell Hong Kong Limited, is pleased to mobilize Shell’s contribution in facilitating recycling and waste reduction by providing more and easier access to collection points across Shell’s citywide station network. She added, “Shell has been upholding the principle of sustainable development in its business operations and providing energy solutions in a socially responsible way. We hope we can work hand in hand with the public by various means, be eco-friendly in our everyday lives and tackle climate challenge with the society.”
Plastic bottles collected from the programme will be sent to designated plastic recycling facility, granulated into plastic pellets and then be made into other useful materials. Shell continues to leverage innovation in its retail business and is committed to implement and promote sustainability development. Shell offers biofuels for drivers and business customers; as well as installing AdBlue® at pump in 14 Shell stations to eliminate the need of manual refill with packaged product, therefore reducing waste at source. Shell also promotes sustainable practices like the use of LED lights and automated temperature sensors at stations as well as sending electronic marketing messages to customers. All Shell Select stores have stopped giving out plastic straws unless upon request; green elements like green wall and self-served water machines are also set up in specific stations.

Ms. Anne Yu, General Manager – Retail of Shell Hong Kong Limited, takes action to support “iRecycle” programme.

Citizens can earn points with “iRecycle” mobile application for recycling Type 1 and Type 2 plastic bottles at designated Shell stations. Points earned can be used to redeem Shell Select promotional vouchers or tote bags at special price and more..

Shell adopts various environmental protection measures in its retail business to implement and promote sustainability development.
