Shell Expands its Mobility Solutions Portfolio by Launching its First Dedicated LPG Filling Station in Hong Kong
Dec 09, 2022
Hong Kong - Shell Hong Kong Limited (“Shell”) today announced the opening of its first dedicated liquefied petroleum gas (“LPG”) filling station in Hong Kong. Located on Fung Mat Road in Sheung Wan, this is the first of five dedicated LPG filling stations that Shell plans to open in the city by 2023.
The station, which covers an area of more than 940m2, will provide 24-hour gas filling services to local LPG taxis and light buses. The move reflects Shell’s continued commitment to investing in Hong Kong and serving the diverse needs of all its mobility customers in the market, including individuals, commercial and public transport sectors.
Demonstrating its steadfast support to the Hong Kong SAR Government’s roadmap to popularise electric vehicles (EV), Shell is channelling its resources to rapidly scale its EV charging network in Hong Kong. In line with the government’s vision to introduce 700 electric buses and 3,000 electric taxis in Hong Kong by the end of 2027, Shell is expanding its footprint to the LPG filling network to provide refuelling services for LPG taxis and LPG minibuses in the city. In doing so, Shell hopes to deepen its understanding of its customers’ needs across the taxi and minibus sectors, including their decarbonisation needs.
“At Shell, we strive to deliver best-in-class services for our customers by offering an ever-evolving range of quality fuels, a welcoming and comfortable rest area, and even a retail experience that provides them with convenience, quality, and choice. With the opening of our first dedicated LPG filling station in Hong Kong and four more in 2023, we aim to diversify our customer base and intensify our understanding of their diverse mobility needs,” said Mr Xifeng Wu, Vice President - Shell Group.
Hong Kong's LPG filling network includes 12 dedicated stations and 56 non-dedicated stations. Supporting the operations of roughly 18,000 LPG taxis and 4,500 LPG light buses, the LPG filling network plays a vital role in Hong Kong’s essential infrastructure. The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) represents the Government in monitoring the design and construction of the dedicated LPG filling stations, as well as their subsequent operation and maintenance.
